Trauma doesn’t always come from one big event. It can also be the accumulation of smaller, unresolved experiences over time—moments when your safety, worth, or voice were compromised. Whether you recognize your trauma or simply feel stuck in ways you can’t explain, trauma-informed therapy creates a safe space to begin making sense of it all.

What Is Trauma-Informed Therapy?

Trauma-informed therapy isn’t a single technique. It’s a way of approaching therapy that understands how trauma shapes the nervous system, relationships, identity, and behavior. It emphasizes safety, collaboration, and empowerment—never blame or pathologizing.

Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with you?” trauma-informed therapy asks, “What happened to you?”

This approach:

  • Recognizes the impact of trauma on your mind, body, and relationships

  • Prioritizes emotional and physical safety in every session

  • Integrates neuroscience, somatic awareness, and experiential tools

  • Works gently with the nervous system to reduce hyperarousal and shutdown

  • Honors your pace, your boundaries, and your strengths

What Counts as Trauma?

Trauma can result from a single overwhelming event, but it can also come from more subtle or ongoing sources. Examples include:

  • Emotional or physical neglect in childhood

  • Chronic criticism or emotional invalidation

  • Medical trauma or invasive procedures

  • Discrimination, racism, or systemic oppression

  • Toxic relationships, spiritual abuse, or betrayal

  • Accidents, natural disasters, or violence

You do not have to justify your pain. If something affected your sense of safety, stability, or self-worth—it matters.
